This river birch cultivar is a dense, compact, deciduous, multi-stemmed shrub with an irregular crown, typically growing to only 10 feet tall with a 12-foot spread.

It features attractive orangish- to brownish-colored bark that exfoliates at an early age, revealing a lighter brown inner bark beneath. Leathery, diamond-shaped, dark green leaves with doubly toothed margins provide excellent texture throughout the growing season before turning a pleasing yellow in fall.

Flowers appear in spring as drooping brownish male catkins and smaller, upright greenish female catkins, both produced on the same plant.

An excellent choice for smaller landscapes, foundation plantings, rain gardens, or naturalized settings where multi-season interest and compact form are desired.
