Northern Tribute® Birch is an exceptional landscape specimen with an upright oval habit and attractive ivory bark that exfoliates to reveal rich coppery-bronze tones beneath. Selected from a large, vigorous seedling discovered in western North Dakota and introduced by North Dakota State University (NDSU), it is a selection of Betula nigra (‘Dickinson’) valued for its superior cold hardiness, adaptability, and resistance to bronze birch borer.
Unlike many river birch selections, Northern Tribute® performs well in compacted and drier soils and adapts to a wide range of soil pH levels, including alkaline soils, without showing signs of iron chlorosis. Its durability and adaptability make it suitable for a much broader range of landscape applications than typical river birch selections.
Performs best in full sun and moist, well-drained soil, though it remains highly resilient under less-than-ideal conditions. An excellent choice for residential and commercial landscapes, where its refined habit and striking exfoliating bark provide outstanding year-round interest.

When ordering tray material, any 38 Ct and 50 Ct Evergreen Gro Plugs or 18 Ct cell liner trays, the order quantity must be in full tray increments.
Example
- 7 trays of 50 Ct Gro Plugs would be 350 plants on the order line.
- 5 trays of 18 Ct trays would be 90 plants on the order line.
All bare root birch single stem must be ordered in increments of 10.
