A moderately growing, large evergreen tree with a narrowly pyramidal crown cloaked in pendulous foliage.
Needles are rhombic in cross-section, spread radially, and are dark green in color with inconspicuous stomatal lines. Cones are cylindrical-conic, with moderately stiff, smoothly rounded scales—emerging purple and maturing to dark brown.
Thrives in moist, well-drained, acidic soil and performs best in full sun to partial shade. Suitable for specimen plantings in large gardens and parks, as well as in groupings or windbreaks.
