When young, the shape varies from a narrow to a broad pyramid. With age, the species develops a narrow crown with short thick lateral branches. Tends to loose its lower branches as it ages. Needles are in clusters of two, sometimes three and vary in color from dark green to yellowish-green. Plant in full sun and moist, well drained soil. Adaptable to dry and alkaline sites. Use as a windbreak or shelterbelt. Seed source: Black Hills, SD. The northern range Ponderosa Pine, hardier and better for the Midwest.

When ordering tray material, any 38 Ct and 50 Ct Evergreen Gro Plugs or 18 Ct cell liner trays, the order quantity must be in full tray increments.
Example
- 7 trays of 50 Ct Gro Plugs would be 350 plants on the order line.
- 5 trays of 18 Ct trays would be 90 plants on the order line.
All bare root birch single stem must be ordered in increments of 10.
