A medium-sized coniferous evergreen with a moderate growth rate, conical shape, straight trunk, horizontal to ascending branches and an oval to rounded crown. Needles are sharply pointed, long and brittle, in fascicles of two and are dark yellow-green in color. Cones are symmetrical ovoid with scales lacking spines or prickles that become purple before maturity and ripening to a nut-blue when opening. This species is intolerant of shade but does well in windy sites. Grows best in full sun and moist, sandy, acidic, well-drained soil. Suitable for windbreaks, stabilizing slopes and providing visual interest in the landscape.

When ordering tray material, any 38 Ct and 50 Ct Evergreen Gro Plugs or 18 Ct cell liner trays, the order quantity must be in full tray increments.
Example
- 7 trays of 50 Ct Gro Plugs would be 350 plants on the order line.
- 5 trays of 18 Ct trays would be 90 plants on the order line.
All bare root birch single stem must be ordered in increments of 10.
